How to Protect Saltwater Crocodiles

Although the world's largest reptile seems tough, with powerful jaws, thick scales and a tail with bony spikes, saltwater crocodiles are actually in a precarious situation. Hunting has severely diminished the number of saltwater crocodiles and other factors, such as environmental issues, are further adding to their decline. Additionally, the hides of saltwater crocodiles are highly coveted for purses, belts and shoes, which is adding to the decrease in population. Protecting saltwater crocodiles is necessary because of their important role in the ocean ecosystem.

  Avoid purchasing products that contain saltwater crocodile leather. Doing so supports the killing of these animals for their hides. Tell friends and family about this occurrence and persuade them to stop purchasing these products as well.

  Spread knowledge about saltwater crocodiles through social networking sites or create a blog to discuss the treatment of these animals, their role in ocean ecosystems and protection for saltwater crocodiles.

  Find an organization such as the International Crocodile Rescue that promotes the welfare of saltwater crocodiles and rescues animals that have been injured or lost. Raise money through a bake sale, car wash or other fundraiser and donate it to the organization. Wildlife protection organizations rely on donations from supporters so that they can continue to help animals.
