How to Attract Sambar Deer

Sambar deer are large, brown animals that live mostly in southern Asia, Australia, New Zealand and Florida's St. Vincent Island. Sambar deer can weigh up to 1,200 lbs., and the males' twice-branching antlers can grow to nearly 5 feet long. Both male and female sambar deer have shaggy manes of fur on their necks, and they are majestic creatures. There are several ways to attract sambar deer, whether it is for observation or hunting purposes.

Instructions

Create a food plot in a remote area where sambar deer are known to live. Set up the plot in a place that gets a lot of sunlight but does not have a lot of natural vegetation. Plant red clover seeds, white clover seeds or a seed blend at the plot, and observe the area as the plants grow and attract animals.

Prepare and hang scent wicks in an area where sambar deer live. You can make scent wicks by soaking several rags in sambar deer urine. Hang the scent wicks 4 to 5 feet off the ground in trees, get a safe distance from the area you planted the scent wicks and observe.

Set up an artificial salt lick in an area sambar deer are known to frequent. Sambar deer --- mostly males --- have been spotted at salt licks. The minerals in salt licks are vital for healthy antler growth.
