Things You'll Need
Instructions
Go to your local garden store and purchase Sevin dust. The product should contain 5 percent or less of Sevin dust.
Wear rubber gloves before handling the product. Sevin comes in different formulations. If you have a concentrate, mix it with water before use. To kill mites in the yard, the garden hose attachment works best. The powder formulation can be used around your animal's sleeping quarters.
Apply the Sevin dust to your yard. Using the spray, cover your yard with the product to kill mites after your yard has been watered or it has rained. Wait until the product is dry before allowing any children or animals to go into your yard. Do not water your yard for two days following application.
Sprinkle Sevin dust powder along the perimeter of your yard or along the edge of the barn. Place the dust around your animal's sleeping quarters.
Treat your animal with a different product to kill mites living in its fur. Although many people use Sevin dust directly on animals, the label instructions state that the product is for outdoor use only. If you decide to use it on your animal, massage the dust into fur. The product is slightly toxic to mammals but it is not easily absorbed through the skin. Be careful around the nose, eyes, mouth and genitals.
