Walrus Mask
To make a walrus mask, you will need a piece of gray construction paper, one white poster board, glue, scissors, a black marker, a stapler and a very large rubber band. Glue the piece of construction paper onto the white poster board. Draw a large oval on the gray construction paper, larger enough to cover your face.
Cut the oval out of the paper and poster board. Draw two, long tusk shapes on the poster board with markers. Cut these tusks out and glue them on the gray oval. Draw oval eye openings on the mask and cut them out. Draw whiskers on the mask with the marker. Cut the rubber band and staple one end to each side of the mask.
Walrus Pup Doll
For a softer walrus craft, make a walrus pup doll. You will need a yard of gray fleece or felt, a black marker, scissors, gray sewing thread, a package of large, self-adhesive googly eyes and a package of fiberfill. Draw your best version of a walrus pup outline on the felt. The outline can be whatever size you desire. You can also find a template or use a cut-out picture of a walrus from a magazine to make your outline. Cut the outline out of two layers of the felt and sew them together with right sides facing, leaving a opening to stuff the doll. Turn the doll right side out and stuff it before sewing the hole closed. Add flippers sewn from remaining felt. Lastly, stick two eyes onto the doll.
Walrus Sock Puppet
For this simple walrus craft, you will need a large, clean gray sock, a black marker, a sheet of white craft foam, scissors, a hot glue gun and a package of large googly eyes. Cut out two 2-inch long, 1/2-inch wide triangles out of the craft foam. The gray sock forms the walrus head and body. Glue the two triangles to the bottom of the sock as tusks. Attach two googly eyes in the appropriate areas.
Walrus Clay Figure
If you want to display your craft, try making a walrus clay figure. You need two containers of non-drying, modeling clay, one gray and one white. Sculpt the shape of a large walrus out of the gray clay. Use pictures of walruses as a guide. Sculpt tusks out of the white clay and attach them to the clay walrus. If desired, sculpt a large iceberg out of the remainder of the white clay and place the clay walrus on top of it.
