Things You'll Need
Instructions
Draw the turtle's shell. Begin by sketching an oval shape extending upward but with a flat bottom. Think of an egg standing on end with the bottom sliced off.
Add the turtle's head. Draw another oval shape, but one that is a little less round, like a square with slightly rounded corners, on the right side of the shell.
Draw the turtle's legs. Create upside-down crown shapes at each corner of the turtle's shell and connected to the flat bottom. Make them rather chunky. Next to the two front legs, draw the edges of the back legs so they just peak out from the front ones.
Add the tail and the face. Draw a tapered point sticking out of the left side of the shell where the curved surface meets the flat bottom. Draw the turtle's features on the rounded square on the right side of the shell. Use an oblong shape like that of a fish for the eye. Depending on the mood you want to create for the turtle, make the eye wide and add a smile to indicate happiness. Make the eye droop and invert the smile if you want a sad turtle. You can experiment with different combinations until you find one you like.
Create texture on the turtle's shell. Draw two rows of rounded rectangle or trapezoid shapes along the flat bottom of the shell. Leave a thin space between rows. Continue to fill in additional rounded rectangle or trapezoid shapes moving upward in rows, with thin spaces between, until the shell is filled.
Color the shell. Use whatever medium you prefer (paint, crayon, colored pencil, etc.) and whatever color suits you. Try a mixture of dark green and black. Make the thin spaces between the patterns on the shell a lighter color than the shapes. You can leave a small rounded area on some of the patters to give the illusion that light is reflecting off the shell.
Add color to the body. Use a pale green color for the head, legs and tail. You can add thin dark lines on the legs and head to give the skin a wrinkled look.
