How to Make Millet Bait

Millet, including pearl millet, fox-tail millet and finger millet, is a cereal plant that is grown all around the world. It is a main ingredient in several types of bird seeds and is ideal as the base for a homemade fishing bait. Mainly used to bait carp, the millet is combined with several other ingredients, including flour, corn syrup and corn meal to provide an effective lure that will have fish biting all season long.

Things You'll Need

  • 3 pounds millet
  • 2 large plastic buckets
  • 2 cups corn meal
  • 1 corn corn flakes
  • 3 packets strawberry flavored drink mix
  • Flour
  • Plastic cling wrap

Instructions

      Pour 3 pounds millet into a large plastic bucket.

      Add 2 cups corn meal, 1 cup corn flakes and 3 packets of flavored strawberry drink mix to the bucket.

      Stir the ingredients and add 1/2 cup corn syrup and 1/2 cup white sugar to the mix.

      Add 1/4 cup flour to the mixture. Stir the mixture with your hands and continue to add flour until you are able to form the millet mixture into small balls.

      Form the mixture into several small balls with your hands. The balls should be approximately 1/4 inch in diameter, or small enough to be comfortably placed on a hook. Place the balls into a separate bucket.

      Cover the bucket with a matching lid or a piece of plastic cling wrap.

      Store the mixture in a cool place to ensure that the balls do not become hot and melt.
