Ocean Ecosystems
The ocean harbors several different ecosystems, including the marsh, coral reefs, lagoons and the open sea. Each ecosystem has some similarities but different species of mammals, fish and invertebrates can be found in these areas and also thrive in different atmospheres. Have students display these differences in a diorama scene and display what creatures and plant life live in different ecosystems of the sea.
Creatures of the Sea
There are many types of creatures that live in the ocean. Some creatures are mammals, others are fish or invertebrate creatures. Have students create a diorama on the particular creatures in one of those three categories. Allow them to focus on one particular animal or many different animals in that category. If a student chooses the mammal category, animals they may consider could be the dolphin or the whale.
Different Oceans
Have students create dioramas that represent the differences of the oceans on earth, such as temperature, the animals and geography of the ocean. There are five different oceans and students should create a diorama that represents one of these oceans. Some oceans cover several different ecosystems, allowing students to choose which aspect of the ocean they wish to represent.
Shipwrecks
A shipwreck diorama could be used for both history and science classes. For a history class, students can create an ocean diorama about a historically famous shipwreck. For science classes, students can choose a shipwreck to show how sea creatures adapt the wreck for their needs. Barnacles and certain fish use shipwrecks as homes and students in a science class can display that in a diorama.
