How to identify shark a shark egg case
Locate the potential shark egg case. Shark egg cases are lightweight and are often washed up to the highest tide line where they dry out. They are also commonly caught in fishing nets.
Measure the potential shark egg case. The egg case of a shark will typically vary in size from 2 to 4 inches. They are also lightweight and feel paper-like.
Identify the shape of the potential case. Shark egg cases have four corners when laid flat. Their shape resembles that of a pillow. Out of each corner extends a long tendril that is used to anchor the sac and can often be found wrapped around seaweeds and other debris.
Consider the length of the tendrils growing out of the four corners. Rays and chimeras also lay egg sacs similar in form to those of sharks. However, the corners of the egg sacs of non-sharks are less than 4 inches in length and come to a point rather than curling up.
