Things You'll Need
Instructions
Put down a square of linoleum slightly larger than the rabbit's pen. This will protect your floor from "accidents" and can be easily, cheaply replaced as needed.
On top of the linoleum, place a square pen. Exercise pens sold for small dogs make perfect indoor rabbit habitats. A rabbit needs enough living space to be able to take several hops in every direction. The House Rabbit Society recommends a pen at least 4 times the size of the bunny when stretched out, and even more if he is confined for most of the day.
Place a large uncovered litterbox in one corner of the pen. Line the litterbox with newspaper, add a layer of paper-based litter, and top off the box with a quality grass hay. This stimulates natural grazing behavior in rabbits and will encourage the rabbit to go to the bathroom in the box. If the rabbit adamantly chooses to do his business in a different corner, move the litterbox to that corner.
Add a hidey-hole. This can be a cardboard or wooden box with a couple of entrance/exit holes cut in the side, a large overturned basket, or a hollowed-out log. Make sure it is safe for rabbits to chew on.
Add a sturdy water crock or attach a water bottle to the side of the pen.
Add a couple of rabbit-safe toys. Wooden chew sticks, wicker balls, or plastic rings can keep your rabbit entertained while in his habitat.
