Requirements for Eagle Scout

• To become an Eagle Scout, a Scout must be active in his troop for at least six months after achieving the rank of Life Scout, demonstrate that he lives by the principles of Scout Oath and Law, earn 21 merit badges, serve actively in a position of responsibility, participate in a Scout Master conference, complete his service project and complete an Eagle Scout Board of Review.

Animal Shelter

• Working at an animal shelter as part of an Eagle Scout project is not only rewarding but a way to help animals. Activities can include becoming a foster parent to an animal waiting for adoption, organizing a neuter and spay campaign to help control pet populations and setting up donation centers to collect supplies needed to care for homeless animals.

Wildlife Refuge Beautification

• There are many things a Scout can do at a wildlife refuge or sanctuary, including creating new nature signs, walkways, pick up trash and create sitting areas. Other ideas include reconstructing boardwalks and viewing areas.

Park Cleanup

• Many different animals seek refuge in public parks. This space is shared by both these animals and people alike. Cleaning and restoring these parks ensures that community members will be able to enjoy them and makes it a cleaner environment for the animals who already inhibit them. Ideas include building footbridges and restoring and remarking trails.
