Do a web search for retailers of exotic pets in your area. Then call each of them individually, and inquire as to whether they have any Louisiana milk snakes for sale. Since they are so commonly found and non-venomous, many pet stores will sell Louisiana milk snakes. If there aren't any pet stores in your area that sell them, try searching online retailers of exotic pets or classified ads. Louisiana milk snake eggs, hatchlings or adults can be shipped overnight to your house from some online retailers. Additionally, you can find people who are selling Louisiana milk snakes in online message boards or classified ads.
Go to the Louisiana milk snake's natural habitats of Louisiana, Texas, Oklahoma or Arkansas to observe them in the wild. During the day, they prefer to hide in shaded, sandy and moist wooded areas that provide coverings, such as rocks or fallen logs. They like to cover themselves as much as possible during the day, and can often be found burrowed beneath loose sand or plant life. Since Louisiana milk snakes are nocturnal, they spend most of their nights hunting small mice or lizards. They are much hard to spot at night, due to the camouflage their patterned scales provides them.
Place a snake trap if you are trying to find a Louisiana milk snake that has gotten loose in your home. If you are intending to reclaim or relocate the snake, then make sure to purchase a snake trap that will not harm the snake. If you place the carcasses of small mice or lizards in the trap, you will be much more likely to attract a Louisiana milk snake. Traps can be purchased from some hardware and grocery stores, or online retailers.
