How to Make Your Own Horse Feed

Making your own horse feed allows you to closely monitor the nutritional intake of your animal. It is very challenging for your horse to find all of their nutritional needs from their surroundings, and meal supplements are almost always necessary. Homemade feed can be more enjoyable for your horse. Horses' stomachs are designed to digest small amounts of food frequently. The animal can't eat a large amount of food at once, so ensure you don't leave a pile of food out.

Instructions

  1. Immune System

    • 1

Peel the garlic and lemon and push them into a container of molasses.

    • 2

Serve your horse a half-cup of the mixture each day. The garlic and molasses have lots of sulfur, and garlic is an antibiotic. The lemon is a source of Vitamin C and organic acids, and also is an astringent tonic.

    • 3

Feed your horse plain garlic and lemon after adjusting to the taste.

    Minerals

    • 4

Blend a handful of kelp, which contains lots of necessary trace elements.

    • 5

Add garlic, lemon and any other recommended supplements to the mixture. You also can add apple cider vinegar, which helps repel flies.

    • 6

Serve it to your horse every three days.

    Oatmeal Cookies

    • 7

Grate carrots. Add it to the oatmeal, molasses, garlic, lemon and brown sugar. Mix it together.

    • 8

Add water until the mixture is soft and you can form it into balls.

    • 9

Pat down the formed balls on a cookie sheet. Bake in a 350-degree Fahrenheit oven until brown.
