How to Find a Goliath Beetle

The five species of scarabs called Goliath beetles are among the largest insects in the world. Weighing up to 100 grams, Goliath beetles use their secondary wings to make speedy flights. The primary wings cover the secondary wings when closed to provide protection. These beetles grow up to 5 inches long and make interesting pets for children and classrooms. Goliath beetles have a pair of claws on the end of each leg, and the males have horns to fight other beetles.

    • 5

Search the dirt for Goliath beetles that live in the soil and eat plant roots.
