What Type of Fruits Do Wild Birds Eat?

Bird watching is a hobby for all ages. Bird feeders in the yard attract various types of birds close to the home for observation and enjoyment. The types of birds seen depend on the food offered in the feeders and your location. In their natural habitat, birds eat worms, insects, seeds and fruits. A bird feeder filled with various types of seed and even fruit attracts a large variety of wild birds.
  1. Grapes

    • Grapes are a favorite for a variety of birds, and over 90 percent of birds will eat them.     Raspberries and Blackberries

    • Berries such as raspberries and blackberries are a favorite for birds. They eat both the seeds and the fruit. These berries attract over 140 species of birds, including fox sparrows, orchard orioles, song sparrows, redheaded woodpeckers, tufted titmice and white breasted sparrows.

    Other Fruits

    • Other fruits also attract a variety of birds. Bananas, plums, cantaloupe seeds, strawberries, oranges and blueberries attract birds as well. Bananas attract hairy woodpeckers, Tennessee warblers and Carolina wrens. Plums, oranges, blueberries and strawberries, and all the fruits listed, will attract a variety of species depending on the location and the birds that reside the area.
