Grapes
Grapes are a favorite for a variety of birds, and over 90 percent of birds will eat them. Grapes put in the feeder attract a vast array of birds: acorn woodpeckers, yellow-billed cuckoos, American robin, house finch, mockingbird, stellar jays, magpies, evening grosbeak, hooded oriole, grey jay, blue birds, warblers, towhees, northern cardinals, cedar waxwing, oriole northern Baltimore, scott's oriole, Swainson's thrush, gray catbird, western tanager and Carolina thrasher.
Apples
Apples are among the favorites for birds that eat fruit and berries. Over 45 species of birds eat apples. Apples in feeders attract waxwing cedar, hairy woodpecker, yellow-breasted chat, cactus wren, house finch, mockingbird, orioles, common flickers, white crowned sparrows, blue jay, American robin, curved billed thrasher, orange crowned warbler and the thrush hermit.
Cherries
Cherries are another favorite for fruit and berry eating birds. Cherries in a feeder attract birds such as Towsend's solitares, pine goose beaks, Lewis woodpeckers, rose-breasted grosbeaks, various types of tanagers, downy woodpeckers, ruffed grouses, read-headed woodpeckers, grackles, white throated sparrows, wood thrushes, blackbirds and blue birds.
Raspberries and Blackberries
Berries such as raspberries and blackberries are a favorite for birds. They eat both the seeds and the fruit. These berries attract over 140 species of birds, including fox sparrows, orchard orioles, song sparrows, redheaded woodpeckers, tufted titmice and white breasted sparrows.
Other Fruits
Other fruits also attract a variety of birds. Bananas, plums, cantaloupe seeds, strawberries, oranges and blueberries attract birds as well. Bananas attract hairy woodpeckers, Tennessee warblers and Carolina wrens. Plums, oranges, blueberries and strawberries, and all the fruits listed, will attract a variety of species depending on the location and the birds that reside the area.
