How to Locate a Spider Nest

Spiders often nest in out of the way locations where the nest is least likely to be disturbed by predators or humans reports John A. Jackman, professor at Texas A&M University. The nest is also going to be located in a place that will give the baby spiders easy access to food and the best chance for survival. It will also be close to where the female spider of that species makes her web. By finding the spider's home, you'll find the spider's nest. You are looking for what looks like a small cotton ball. This is the collection of eggs encased in a web sac.

Instructions

    • 1

Put on your gardening gloves. This will protect your hands from scraps and bites.

    • 2

Look under rocks and pieces of wood. Spiders that live on the ground often attach their eggs to the underside of rocks and other debris.

    • 3

Inspect the inside and undersides of flowers and leaves. The University of Arizona reports this is where many web-building spiders leave their nest because of the many flying insects available.

    • 4

Follow the web to a corner or dark location. Spiders that build webs in the corners of your house or buildings may put their nest in the darkest and most remote part of that web.
