How Do You Know If Your Duck Eggs Are Fertile?

The simplest method of determining duck egg fertility is called candling. The process involves holding the eggs up to a light source to check for signs of embryonic development. You can also observe the embryonic development process by candling fertile eggs at intervals during incubation.

      Arrange the duck eggs and flashlight on a table so that they will be easy to find in the dark, then dim the lights in the room.

      Turn on the flashlight and press it against the top of a duck egg.

      Observe the egg carefully. Look for any veins or dark spots in the egg. If the egg is clear inside, it is not fertile. If you see vasculature, the duck egg is fertile.
