Ways by Which People Can Protect & Conserve Endangered Species

Endangered animal populations remain at risk of extinction. One of the major causes of endangered animals is habitat destruction which occurs through coastal development, pollution and other nonenvironmentally friendly practices. Avoid the extinction of animal populations by preserving and conserving endangered species.
  1. Donate

    • Donate your time or money to the cause. You can volunteer to plant trees, educate the community or participate in habitat restoration projects. Many organizations also accept monetary donations in support of preserving endangered species and habitats. You can donate online or through mail to organizations like World Wildlife Fund. To increase donations you can also host a fundraiser, canvass your neighborhood or encourage your company or school to implement a scholarship, grant or award for future environmental leaders.

    Go Green

    • Buying, selling and using environmentally friendly products helps protect and preserve endangered species. Many everyday items contribute massive amounts of pollution which contributes to the eradication of habitats and displacement, leading to endangered and threatened specie populations. Support green transportation by purchasing a hybrid vehicle, biking or walking to work and school. Purchase environmentally friendly cleaning products and personal care items that use all natural ingredients. You may also go green by using alternative energy sources such as wind or solar power.

    Reduce, Reuse , Recycle

    • Reduce your ecological footprint by reusing and recycling materials. Recycling decreases harmful greenhouse gas emissions and contributes to energy conservation. Recycling also decreases the land required for landfills and garbage dumps which can trample habitats. You can recycle materials such as plastic, paper, electronics and aluminum. Reuse items you cannot recycle to avoid pollution of endangered specie habitats. Reuse items like water bottles, food containers, wrapping paper and greeting cards. With a little creativity you can find multiple uses for almost any product rather than tossing it in the garbage.

    Eco-Tourism

    • On your next vacation minimize your impact with ecotourism --- environmentally friendly travel to natural areas which improves rather than impedes the lives of the local population. Start by choosing a destination less traveled and rich in local culture. Try searching the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) website for locations of endangered animals. Find an environmentally friendly accommodation like a hostel, solar-powered facility or campground rather than a hotel. Research local customs before traveling to ensure you do not tread on the culture of the people. You can also participate in a restoration project or educational opportunity at your destination in an effort to improve rather than destroy the area.
