How to Bottle Feed a Fallow Deer Fawn

Fallow deer are slender to medium in size and very graceful in appearance. They mostly feed on grass, plants, shrubs and the lower parts of trees. In early to late June, females give birth and may leave their baby fawn for several hours in tall grass or hidden vegetation in search for food. If you notice a baby fawn on your property and the mother doe has not returned for at least 48 hours, then it is probably orphaned and needs help for survival.

Instructions

    • 1

Feed the fallow deer fawn regularly. Mix three cups of goat's milk and one cup of cow's milk in a container.

    • 2

Heat the milk up to a warm temperature and pour the mixture into a baby bottle. Feed the baby fawn every three hours. As the fawn gets older, he will only need to feed twice a day.

    • 3

Pull and push back on the baby fawn while it feeds on the bottle. This is how a mother doe would act with her fawn while nursing in the wild.

    • 4

Keep the baby fawn in a quiet area with comfortable bedding to avoid stress. Change bedding regularly, and keep it clean and dry.

    • 5

Watch for diarrhea in your fallow deer fawn. They can die from dehydration very quickly. If you notice signs of diarrhea, cut milk feeding in half and replace with water.
