Water
Most snails prefer to live in cool, damp environments. Certain types of snails even live in water. Snails that live in aquatic habitats tend to have smaller shells than those that spend most of their time on land.
Underground
Other snails live beneath the surface of the ground, especially in hotter climates and locations. They surface only when the weather is cooler and there is plenty of moisture in the air.
Darkness
Snails frequently are nocturnal creatures and prefer to be active during the nighttime. This may be because many snail habitats are cooler during the night.
