How to Take Care of Mounted Fish

Fishing is a multi-million dollar sport. Anglers spend years and lots of money chasing after a trophy-sized catch. Once caught, proud anglers can take their catch to a licensed taxidermist to have the fish mounted. After being mounted, the fish can be placed on display for decades. To ensure that the fish retains its color and luster, precautions and a regular cleaning system must be adhered to.

Instructions

  1. Caring For a Mounted Fish

    • 1

Choose a safe location to display the fish. The fish should be hung in a location that is not in direct sunlight to prevent fading due to exposure to UV light. The fish should also be kept from heat sources such as heaters and fireplaces.

    • 2

Install a round-headed screw with a screwdriver in the location that the fish will hang. Hang the fish on the screw and check to make sure the fish is secure.

    • 3

When the fish is dusty, use a cloth sprayed lightly with a commercial dusting product. Carefully wipe the outside of the fish. Be careful around the fins.

    • 4

Spray a cotton swab lightly with a commercial dusting product. Clean around the fin rays and other small parts with the cotton swab.
