How to Raise the Humidity in a Gecko Vivarium

Gecko humidity requirements in a vivarium vary with the species' natural environment, from desert to tropical rain forest. Putting in a hygrometer will enable you to maintain the humidity in your vivarium at the correct level. If extra humidity is needed, this is easily supplied.

      Add a shallow pool with a wide surface area. Evaporation adds humidity.

      Plant tropical foliage in a rain forest vivarium.

      Use a spray bottle to spritz the interior of your vivarium twice a day. Be sure to let it dry completely before re-wetting to discourage mold and bacterial growth. Your gecko may enjoy being misted and may even drink the drops from its body.

      Install a water-holding substrate such as vermiculite or an absorbent ground cover, such as sphagnum moss or orchid bark, for slow evaporation.
