How to Release a Mouse From a Glue Trap

Glue boards are an inhumane trapping method that causes animals to suffocate or die of thirst or stress. Unlike snap traps that kill instantly, a mouse caught in a glue trap can linger alive for days. They can pull their fur out, or gnaw off their own limbs or tails in an effort to escape the trap. If you find a mouse caught in a glue trap that is still alive, you can release it with a little time and patience.

Instructions

    • 1

Pour a small amount of vegetable or baby oil onto the trap in the area where the mouse is stuck. If the animal's head is stuck, be careful not to drown it in the oil.

    • 2

Hold the trap and mouse over a bucket and use a cotton swab to work the oil in between the animal and the board of the glue trap. Be careful not to get bitten or pull the mouse's fur out.

    • 3

Release the mouse in an area away from dwellings so it will not come back into the house.
