Instructions
Place the lower screen at the bottom of the filter cylinder with its feet down.
Rinse all filter materials with running water. Place one coarse blue filter pad on top of the lower screen. If your filter included Eheim's Substrat filtering material, pour it into the cylinder. Otherwise, add five more coarse blue filter pads.
Add one fine white filter pad and one black carbon filter pad to the top of the cylinder.
Mount the pump head on the top of the cylinder and clip it in place. Position the pump below your aquarium in a vertical orientation.
Slide one end of one of the included hoses over the outflow valve on the top of the filter. Slide one end of the other hose over the inflow valve at the bottom of the filter. Slide the other end of the hose over the outflow valve of the suction pipe. Slide the clamping nuts on each valve over the connected hose and twist clockwise until the hoses are secured.
Press the suction cups on the spray bar and the suction pipe against the inside wall of the aquarium. The suction pipe should be beneath the water line and the spray bar should be near the top of the tank, above the water line.
Plug the filter into a standard wall outlet but do not switch it on. Ensure that the cord flows down from the filter, forms a loop, and flows up to the plug. This drip loop is essential to keep water from flowing along the cord into the electrical outlet.
Suck on the end of the hose that is connected to the top of the pump to fill the filter with water. You can use your mouth or a starter bulb for this. Once the filter is completely full of water, switch the pump on. Once water is flowing smoothly through the system, slide the loose end of the hose over the inflow valve on the spray bar and secure it with the clamping nut on the valve.
