How to Wash a Cat's Face

Cats are naturally clean and fastidious creatures, but sometimes they need a little help from their owners. If a cat has a cold, or discharge from their eyes, it can stain the fur on their face. Cats are also known for their curiosity, and sometimes like to stick their faces where they don't belong. This can leave them with gummy or matted fur. While a sick cat should definitely see a vet, you can help your cat by cleaning their face.

Instructions

    • 1

Wet a washcloth or sponge in the sink and wring out the excess water.

    • 2

Determine if your cat will allow you to wash their face by bringing the damp washcloth or sponge close to it. If the cat resits by running away or trying to bite, you will need to restrain the cat.

    • 3

Wrap the cat securely in a towel or pillowcase with only their head sticking out. Make sure to pin the cat's legs close to their body so they cannot scratch you.

    • 4

Wipe the cat's face until it is clean, following the direction of the cat's fur.
