How to Polish Deer Horns

Deer horns function as an environmental catch-all when they stay in the same position for too long. Whether the horns are fastened to a deer-head mount or unattached, they can pick up things like grease and dust from their resting place. Over time, the horns will take on a dull, matte appearance which can make them look older and less attractive. Fortunately, you can take care of this problem without professional intervention.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold a clean, soft cloth under running water to saturate it. Squeeze it gently to remove excess water. The cloth should be damp, not dripping wet.

    • 2

Wipe the deer horns with the damp cloth to remove surface dust, dirt and other grime. You may need to scrub firmly to get the horns completely clean.

    • 3

Swipe the deer antlers with a dry, soft cloth to remove all traces of moisture. Pour 1 tsp. of linseed oil into a small container.

    • 4

Dip a portion of a clean, soft cloth in the linseed oil to saturate it. Squeeze the cloth with your fingers to get rid of excess oil.

    • 5

Polish the entire surface of the horns with the oily cloth. Rub the oil into the horns well. Buff them to a shine with a dry portion of the cloth.
