How to Make a Fur Strecher Board

Fur stretchers are homemade wooden objects that help to stretch a fur right after a successful kill. Stretching the fur of an animal is crucial for being able to use the fur for upholstery and linens, as well as any other application you would desire. When you stretch your pelts, it is important that you do it right the first time, otherwise your pelt may be rendered unusable. These complications can include having ripples or not pulling the pelt tight enough to stretch properly. Once it is on the stretcher, it can dry completely.

Instructions

    • 1

Measure the length and width of the pelt, not including the legs. Write these measurements down.

    • 2

Measure the pine board to the specifications of the pelt. You don't have to use pine, but the wood that you choose should be a soft wood like pine.

    • 3

Use the table saw or hand saw to cut the inch-thick board to the size of the pelt. Curve the top end of the board so that the top is rounded for the head of the pelt. The finished product should look similar to a short surfboard.

Stretch the fur over the stretcher board and dry as desired.
