Instructions for Homemade Deer-Scent Sticks

Deer hunting can be a hit or miss process. One way to gain an advantage is through the use of deer scent, or deer urine. The scent can be collected from the bladder of a newly killed deer and used to attract game to your deer blind or tree stand. Homemade deer-scent sticks are an efficient way to attract deer to your position.

Instructions

    • 1

Gather three to four sticks from your lawn. The sticks should be approximately 5 to 6 inches in length.

    • 2

Cut three to four strips -- 6- by 2-inches wide -- from an unwanted t-shirt. The t-shirt must be freshly washed to remove human scent. Wear rubber gloves.

    • 3

Pour 1 cup of deer urine into a plastic bucket. If a deceased deer isn't available to provide the urine, it can be purchased.

    • 4

Dip each of the t-shirt strips into the deer urine.

    • 5

Wring out the strips with your hands. Place the strips flat on a paper towel.

    • 6

Wrap one of the urine-soaked strips around one end of the sticks. Secure it with a rubber band once the strip is wrapped.

    • 7

Tie the end of a 1-foot piece of twine around the other end of the stick.

    • 8

Tie the other end of the twine around a tree branch in the area where you are hunting. The deer will smell the urine and be less timid about approaching.
