Plan Ahead
Request permission well before you plan to hunt. Make sure to specify the exact area you would like to hunt. Be prepared to leave your personal information and the dates and times you would like to hunt.
Be Cordial
Request permission in person. Go by yourself, leaving dogs, guns or other hunters behind. Visit the landowner at a time of day when they will be home and not busy, such as in the evening if you are approaching a farmer. Be polite and straightforward.
Be Respectful
Respect any rules or limitations specified by the landowner. Inquire about safety precautions, such as where it might not be safe to shoot. Offer an incentive for the landowner, such as part of your game harvest or another offering of goodwill.
