Types of Dinosaurs
During the later parts of the age of the dinosaurs, the area that is now California was mainly underwater. This means that many dinosaur fossils were washed away. However, from what does remain, and from other dinosaur studies nearby, it's believed that many types of dinosaurs, such as Triceratops, Hadrosaurs and Tyrannosaurus Rex lived in California and laid their eggs there.
Dinosaur Egg Fossils
Like other fossils types, dinosaur eggs are usually mineralized. This means that parts of the original egg have been replaced with mineral substances, making the fossil hard enough to last. Some eggs, such as those occasionally found in California, even contain the fossilized embryo of the baby dinosaur.
Finding the Fossils
Dinosaur egg fossils can be found all over California, as well as the surrounding areas. Some small fossils are still being found by amateurs and professionals alike. Dinosaur eggs and other fossils are found in areas of sedimentary rock. Some dinosaur eggs can be seen on display in California museums.
