Rules
Relic hunters in East Texas should know that collecting on public property is not allowed without a permit. When relic hunting on private property, hunters must have permission from the landowner.
Locations
Relics may be found anywhere in East Texas, but hunters will have better luck in certain areas. Hunt in places where the soil has been disturbed, such as construction sites, plowed fields, and areas of soil erosion. River and creek beds are also good for relic hunting, due to the action of the churning water and the amount of exposed rock.
Timing
Generally the best time to relic hunt is determined by rainfall. Rain washes away surface dirt from relics, making them easier to spot. Increased water in streams after a heavy rain also works to uncover relics buried in the stream bed or embedded in its banks. Drought conditions lower water levels, allowing new areas of the stream bed to be searched.
