Georgia Metal Detector Clubs

Georgia is home to many Civil War battlefields and other historical sites. This means that there are thousands of relics waiting to be discovered. Georgia residents can enjoy using a metal detector to hunt for hidden treasures. There are also a number of metal detecting clubs dedicated to finding and preserving memorabilia, so Georgians can connect with others who share a common interest.
  1. North Georgia Relic Hunters Association

    • North Georgia Relic Hunters Association is located in Marietta, Georgia which is just north of Atlanta. The purpose of this group is to collect Civil War relics and coins and preserve artifacts of Georgia history. The club was formed in 1972 and is very active in treasure hunting in north Georgia. Meetings are held the first and third Wednesday of every month at the Cobb County FOP Lodge in Marietta. The first meeting is a general meeting to discuss club business. The second meeting is a "find of the month" meeting where members can show off the finds they have made since the last meeting. The group has annual relic and coin hunts and also publishes a monthly newsletter. Membership is open to all, and a family membership includes all family members under the age of 16.

They are located in Savannah, which is on Georgia's east coast. The group meets at 7:30 pm on the fourth Thursday of every month at Shoney's restaurant just off of Interstate 95 in Savannah. Visitors are welcome to attend these meetings in order to get a feel for what the club is about. Door prizes are given at all of these monthly meetings. Membership is open to all, with reduced rates for additional family members. There is an annual spring picnic and coin hunt along the beach. This hunt will feature coins and tokens strategically placed for treasure hunters to find with prizes for the winners.

    Georgia Gold Prospectors Association

    • The Georgia Gold Prospectors Association has five areas within the state where members can use a metal detector to hunt for relics or gold. All of these areas have gated access. Reservations are not needed in order to hunt. Camping is also permitted on this land, so members can choose to spend an entire weekend hunting for treasure. Guests are permitted to accompany paid members, but can not use their own equipment. Visitors and members are expected to fill in all holes, not disturb trees and not dig in banks. The group operates a website with information on treasure hunting, panning for gold, Civil War relics and other related topics. There is also a discussion forum, chat room and newsletter.
