What Are the Traits of Someone With the Spirit of the Tiger?

In 1982, the rock band, Survivor, gave the film, "Rocky III," its iconic theme song -- "Eye of the Tiger." The lead character, Rocky Balboa, had to summon the spirit of the tiger within to defeat his newest foe. Since ancient times humans have connected to different animal guides and totems to best utilize their skills and abilities. Different cultures honor this independent, adventurous and powerful spirit to succeed in their goals and face new challenges.
  1. Chinese Astrology

    • Chinese astrology is composed of 12 different animals which represent certain characteristics and qualities of those born in certain years. For those born under the sign of the Tiger, these characteristics include bravery, boundless energy and the ability to land on one's feet. These individuals are charming and even considered lucky. Like the tiger itself, those born under the sign of the Tiger are self-reliant, adventurous and resilient, but can display particular vehemence and vanity.

    Courage in Battle

    • Like Rocky, those who demonstrate Tiger characteristics are brave in the face of adversity. They are especially cunning and able to use whatever tools or skills they have at their disposal to succeed at any goal. This is similar to the tiger's skill as a solitary hunter, who can strike powerfully and accurately. This spirit is called upon in times of battle, when particular courage is needed to conquer an enemy.

    Solitary, But Devoted

    • Tigers in the wild are solitary creatures who only come together for the purposes of mating. Humans who harness the spirit of the tiger are fiercely independent by nature. But just like the mama tiger who can go from nuzzling her cubs to attacking anything that threatens their safety, those with a tiger spirit are fiercely loyal and devoted to those scarce few they allow close. This intensity may scare others away, who will not know how to handle the convergence of these two forces.

    Confident, Patient, Passionate

    • A tiger is a confident hunter that uses patience and the element of surprise to take down its prey. Likewise, someone who has summoned the spirit of the tiger will demonstrate confidence and patience as it approaches any particular goal. But do not mistake this approach as passionless. Just like the diverse nature of its dramatic contrasting stripes, the spirit of the tiger can also evoke passion and sensuality. This yin and yang nature makes the tiger a formidable foe, or a devoted, tireless ally.
