Using the Eyepieces
Remove the plastic dust cover from the eyepiece holder. The eyepiece holder and Crayford focuser come pre-attached to the optical tube.
Turn the thumbscrew under the eyepiece opening several times to loosen it. Remove the plastic covers from the eyepiece you want to use. If you want to use the 2-inch eyepiece, you have to pull the adapter out of the focuser first.
Place the chrome end of the eyepiece into the eyepiece holder. Tighten the bottom thumbscrew to keep the eyepiece steady. Look through the eyepiece.
Loosen the silver thumbscrew and pull the eyepiece out of the focuser when you are done. Place the dust covers on the focuser and eyepiece for protection.
Making Adjustments
Grasp the end of the optical tube assembly and gently move it to the left and right, or up and down. Allow the telescope to move naturally with your movement; do not force it.
Loosen the two thumbscrews at the back of the left side of the focuser.
Push or pull the focuser slowly until the object you are observing becomes as clear as possible. You can also turn the large rack-and-pinion knobs to adjust the focus.
Tighten both thumbscrews to lock the focuser into place.
Cooling and Transporting
Insert eight AA batteries into the separate battery adapter.
Locate the cooling fan at the bottom of the optical tube assembly, then connect the battery adapter to the telescope. The cooling fan will begin working, which will reduce the time it takes the telescope to reach thermal equilibrium.
Unplug the battery adapter and remove the batteries when you are finished.
Lift the telescope from the base and place it in a telescope case for safe transportation. Transport the base separately. Do not attempt to move the base and the telescope at the same time, and do not let the telescope roll around. This will affect the telescope alignment.
