Instructions
Locate the Big Dipper in the sky. The Big Dipper, also called Ursa Major or the Great Bear, has a very distinct appearance--a square ladle with a handle. It is made up of seven stars. The Big Dipper points in different directions depending on the time of the year.
Find the North Star. Imagine a line connecting the two stars at the front of the cup, and extend it up and out toward the Little Dipper. Polaris is the brightest star in the Little Dipper. The Little Dipper looks similar to the Big Dipper, but isn't as bright.
Navigate by the North Star. Travel toward Polaris, which is just slightly off true north but acts as it for navigational purposes.
