Instructions

    • 1

Fill the stockpot with distilled water. If you want a scented water, go for a rose or lavender hydrosol, which is available from craft supply shops.

    • 2

Drop the soapwort plants into the pot. Cover it and let it simmer for about 40 minutes on your stove's lowest setting. This slowly draws out the saponins within the soapwort.

    • 3

Turn off the stove and remove the plant material, leaving the slightly tinted water. It will look slightly yellowish-green. Let it cool to room temperature. This takes up to three hours.

    • 4

Pour the liquid into the half-gallon container. Add the vegetable glycerin to the container. You can find this product in craft and hobby supply shops or online.

    • 5

Add essential oil to the container such as oil of chamomile, which gives soothing feelings to your skin. Secure the lid of the container and shake it vigorously for a couple of minutes.
