How to Calculate Lunar Signs

While most people know what their sun sign is, very few know where the moon was in the zodiac when they were born. The sun signs supposedly demonstrate the more dominant aspects of the personality, but the moon sign is supposed to be an indicator of your internal life. Astrologers believe that the moon sign regulates the emotional, intuitive and instinctive aspects of our personalities. Some believers say that moon signs can also dictate days on which certain activities are auspicious.

  Find the time zone where you were born. Additionally, the exact time of your birth will help determine your moon sign, but it is not critical as long as you have a general idea of what time of day you were born.

  Use an online calculator. You can find a wide variety of lunar sign calculators on the Internet. For most of the calculators you will need to input the date, time and location of your birth. A few require you to know how many hours off from the Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) your birth location is, which is also available on the Internet and in many almanacs.

  Calculate with an ephemeris. Ephemera are books that hold records of the position of celestial bodies, such as the planets, stars, constellations, the sun and the moon. You can find online ephemera, which are much easier to use than an ephemeris in book form, as the books can require a number of calculations to determine the lunar sign.

  Have your chart done. Professional astrologers should be able to calculate your lunar signs quickly and accurately, along with numerous other aspects of your astrological chart, including your ascendant sign, and the locations of the other planets in the zodiac at the time of your birth.
