  Buy the level of software appropriate to your experience. Professional software will offer complex charts with less emphasis on interpretations. More basic software offers simple charts with more emphasis on interpretation, with thorough explanations of techniques and terminology.

  Check the accuracy of the charts created by your software. You can do this by actually following the planets through a year or two, or more easily you can compare the chart to several free ones that can be created online.

  Learn the ins and outs of the software you choose to use. While some software only creates a chart that you must interpret yourself, more advanced software offers several options for reading and comparing charts.

  Explore other programs if you want to focus on a specific type of reading beyond the zodiac. There is software available for Chinese Horoscopes, Numerology, Runes and Tarot Cards.
