How to Decorate My Classroom as Outer Space

Themed classrooms are educational as well as entertaining. Decorate your classroom as outer space to inform children about the solar system while maintaining their interest on the subject. Students retain more information through hands-on activities. Invite your students to assist with the decorations. Provide the children a sense of pride and ownership by allowing them to make decisions about the decor, such as where to hang planets or what colors to paint astronauts' space suits. Actively engaging students sparks creativity and promotes learning.

Instructions

  1. Decorations

    • 1

Stick star-shaped glow-in-the-dark stickers on the ceiling and walls. Arrange the stickers to resemble constellations. When the lights are turned off, the glowing stickers will create a starry night effect. Challenge students to identify the different constellations.

    • 2

Draw astronauts on poster board and cut them out. Decorate the astronauts and arrange them in different locations around the classroom. Glue each student's photo onto an astronaut's head so that every child has his own astronaut to take home at the end of the school year, or when the classroom decor changes.

    • 3

Create a solar system mobile. Paint Styrofoam balls to resemble the planets and sun. Hang the balls from the ceiling with fishing line.

    • 4

Cover a bulletin board with dark blue paper. Cut star shapes from brightly colored paper and glue them onto the board. Draw small rocket ships on paper and cut them out. Decorate the rockets and write a student's name on each. Use the bulletin board and rockets to denote announcements and achievements, such as student birthdays or classroom chores.

A telescope in the classroom allows exploration of outer space.

Arrange space-themed objects around the room, such as a telescope near the window or photographs of the universe on the walls. Include books about the solar system to further educate students on the subject of outer space.
