How to Construct a Perpendicular by Folding Paper

Teachers explain concepts in geometry with practical demonstrations such as paper folding. Using basic sheets of paper, students are able to visually solve math problems and learn the basics about certain concepts. A perpendicular line or bisector is a line segment that intersects another line segment at a 90 degree angle. Constructing this perpendicular bisector via paper folding is easy.

Instructions

    • 1

Draw a line of any length on a sheet of flat paper. Use the ruler to make the line straight.

    • 2

Fold the paper over on itself so that the endpoints of this line are touching. Crease the paper.

    • 3

Open the paper back up. The crease is where you can draw your perpendicular bisector. Trace over the crease with the ruler and pencil.
