How to Find the Taurus Constellation

The constellation Taurus is one of the earliest to be recognized and observed by man. Because its position in the night's sky changes with the seasons, it is best found in relation to Orion, one of the most prominent constellations in both hemispheres. Orion, the hunter, wields his club against Taurus, the bull. By following the pointers created by a few distinctive star patterns, you can hit the bull's eye on Taurus.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the constellation Orion by spotting Orion's belt. It is formed by three bright stars -- Alnitak, Alnilam, Mintaka -- that look like they are lined up in a row.

    • 2

Draw an imaginary line through Orion's belt and extend it to beside a very bright star in the northeast. That star is Aldebaran. Aldebaran is the eye of the bull.

    • 3

Look northwestern slightly and find the stars Beta Tauri and Zeta. They form the bull's horns.
