Research Halley's Comet online and in books to view pictures and descriptions of previous times Halley's Comet was visible. Visit a local science museum to find out more.
Confirm the date. As 2061 comes closer, astronomers will have a better idea of the exact date and time Halley's Comet will be visible. Since its orbit is not exactly every 76 years, it is important to get updates from NASA and other sources to stay informed about when Halley's Comet will actually be coming around.
Plan a viewing party. Halley's Comet will be most visible at night, and this is a great chance to get together with friends and family and observe something that you may see only once in your lifetime. Have blankets and chairs outside for guests to sit on while observing the comet. If there are kids at the party, print out activity sheets, play games and even just let the kids color what they think Halley's Comet will look like.
Take pictures or video. Viewing Halley's Comet is an exciting event, so take pictures or video to remember what you saw. Comets generally look like bright fireballs flying across the sky, but Halley's Comet is a little dimmer. Halley's Comet looks like a very bright gray cloud.
