How to Use the Meade LX90

The Meade LX90 is a model of small telescope that can be used outside of your home or is portable enough to take with you on trips to view the stars and planets. This model is made for beginners and features an Autostar Hand Controller to make it easier to move the telescope and focus on the objects you want to see. The LX90 includes a feature that allows you to use the telescope to automatically track a star.

Instructions

    • 1

Flip the telescope's power switch to the "On" position. On the Autostar screen, you will see a copyright message while the system loads. Once it loads, you will see a warning message about avoiding looking into the sun. Press any button to acknowledge the message and begin looking at the stars.

    • 2

Press the "Enter" button multiple times until you see "Setup: Align" appear on the screen. This indicates that the telescope is aligning itself with the night sky. Press the "Down" arrow until "Setup: Targets" appears on the screen and press "Enter" once again to begin searching for objects.

    • 3

Press one of the up or down arrows to change the current setting from "Targets: Terrestrial" to "Targets:Astronomical." This will change the range of the telescope from looking at objects on the Earth's surface to objects in space.

    • 4

Look through the viewfinder and turn the telescope so that the lens is facing in the general direction of the object you wish to view. Press the up or down arrow keys and the telescope will move slightly to center the object.

    • 5

Press the "Enter" button when the star or planet is centered and the telescope's motors will work to zoom in and focus on the object. As you watch the object in the viewfinder, the telescope will track the object, making sure it is always in the center of the viewfinder. This will help you continuously watch objects such as planets or nebulae.
