How to Attach Meade DSI to Binoculars

The Meade company makes a variety of devices that you can use to explore the cosmos from the comfort of your backyard. The Meade Deep Sky Imager (DSI) is a device that you can use in conjunction with a telescope to take pictures of the stars and planets. You also can attach this device to a set of binoculars, allowing you to save images of items closer to the Earth's surface.

Instructions

      Insert the DSI Autostar Suite installation disc into your computer. The installation wizard should appear automatically. Click "Install Autostar Suite" on the main menu. Click the "Next" button on the bottom of the screen and then the "Yes" button on the terms and agreements page. Installation will begin, and you will see an "Installation complete" screen when finished.

      Connect one end of the provided USB cord to the input on the back of the DSI camera. Connect the other end of this cord to the open USB port located on your computer. A "Found New Hardware" message will appear on your screen. Click "Next," and the computer will search for and install the driver for the DSI camera. Click "Finish" when prompted.

      Open the Autostar Suite program you have just installed. You will see an image on the screen depicting what the camera sees.

      Place the binoculars on the binocular holder and look through the eyepiece. Move the binoculars and adjust the viewfinder until the object that you want to take a picture of is in clear focus. Do not move the binoculars from this position.

      Attach the DSI camera to the camera eyepiece holder. Move the camera so that it is flush with the eyepiece of the binoculars. You will see the image from the binoculars on your screen. Slightly adjust the camera until the image is in clear view.
