How to Operate a Meade 105 ETX Telescope

The night sky can be interesting to study with your naked eye, but using a telescope to look at stars and planets gives you a much better view of objects millions of miles away from Earth. The Meade 105 ETX telescope is one model you might choose that features a small body for easy moving and storage. This device also features a remote control which you will use while operating your telescope.

      Gently place the telescope on its side and slide the battery compartment cover off of the base of the device. Insert eight "AA" batteries into the compartment according to the "+" and "-" polarity symbols. Replace the battery cover by sliding it back into place until you hear a click.

      Set the telescope back into the upright position in a place where you can get a clear view of the sky. Connect the remote control unit to the telescope by plugging the end of the cord into the input located near the base of the telescope.

      Flip the "Power" switch located on the control panel near the base of the telescope into the "ON" position. The power indicator light on the remote control will light up. Test the remote control by pressing any button to see if the telescope responds. If not, the control might not be connected properly.

      Look through the eyepiece and use the arrow buttons on the remote control to adjust where the telescope is pointing. You can move the telescope up and down as well as left and right. Press the "Speed" button to change the slew speed of the telescope. Each press will increase the speed one unit. When an object is in view, turn the focus knob on the telescope until the object is clear.
