How Do I Attach a Telescope to My Sony A700?

Like most SLR and DSLR cameras, the Sony A700 DSLR can be connected to almost any telescope. The combination of telescope and camera constitutes a powerful system for astronomical and terrestrial photography. There are several ways to couple a camera to a telescope, the most popular being the prime focus method. This method effectively replaces the camera lens with the telescope.

The accessories you need for prime focus photography are a T-adapter and a T-ring. The T-adapter system uses a universal 42 mm diameter thread for connecting cameras to telescopes and other devices. The T-adapter connects the telescope to a camera-specific T-Ring, which in turn connects to the camera body. T-adapters are available for all telescopes that use a 1 1/4-inch or 2-inch focuser, which by far are the most common sizes.
