How to Buy a Star in Space

If you have a friend or family member who loves science and astronomy, you might want to consider dedicating a star to her on her next birthday. You can now have a star named after someone. In most cases, you will be given a certificate of purchase and a sky map showing where the star can be found.

  Choose an agency through which to dedicate the star. Name a Star Services and the International Star Registry are both reputable companies that you can use.

  Visit the website of the company that you have chosen for your purchase. Click on the area that will allow you to adopt a star. Fill out all information such as your name and address and the name of the person for whom you are dedicating the star. You will need to list the name that you would like the star to be named after.

  Customize your purchase package. Many companies allow you to purchase additional services such as framed certificates and wallet cards that list the star name and coordinates. Decide whether you will present the gift or if you would like for the company to mail the certificate and letter of congratulations for you. Once you are satisfied with your purchase package, click submit.
