How to Make a Laser Bracket for a Telescope

Mounting a laser on your telescope will help you to quickly and easily find planets, stars and deep-space objects. While some astronomy companies will include the laser needed, most do not help you with the bracket it needs to go on. This is a money-making venture for them, as it is an "accessory" that you need to buy. Instead of spending $20 or more on a company-build bracket, build your own.

Things You'll Need

  • Rotary tool or drill
  • 6-inch PVC pipe extender
  • Nylon thumbscrews
  • Film canister

Instructions

    • 1

Thread a hole near the end of the PVC pipe using a rotary tool or drill. This will be your on and off switch for the laser. Place one of the nylon thumbscrews into the hole once it is drilled.

    • 2

Repeat Step 1 four more times, using your drill or rotary tool to drill holes in a triangular design near the end in order to hold the laser in place.

    • 3

Place the laser into the PVC pipe and position the screws so it is completely aligned with the pipe itself. You can adjust the laser by screwing and unscrewing the nylon screws until you get it correctly placed.

    • 4

Place the film canister in the front of the PVC pipe. The canister will go directly over the laser, and it will support it along with the screws.

    • 5

Mount the bracket onto the telescope.
