How to Find Sunrise & Sunset Times

When you are planning an outdoor activity for the morning or evening hours, it can be helpful to know what time the sun will rise and set. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's user-friendly solar calculator allows you to quickly find sunrise and sunset times for any location on Earth.

Instructions

    • 1

Type esrl.noaa.gov/gmd into your browser's address bar and click "Solar Calculator" under the "Highlights" heading on the right side of the page.

    • 2

Click a blue pin near your location on the map. Be sure the city you choose is in your time zone.

    • 3

Use the control on the left side of the map to zoom in, and drag the red pin to your exact location. Click "Save" in the lower right corner of the map if you want to save this location for future use.

    • 4

Enter the date for which you want to calculate the sunrise and sunset (the current date is displayed by default), and check the "DST?" box if daylight saving time is in effect for the location.

    • 5

View the results in the "Apparent Sunrise" and "Apparent Sunset" fields.
