How to Use a Bushmaster Telescope

Astronomy is a fascinating hobby and can provide hours of fun for you and your family as you search the night skies for celestial bodies known and unknown. One of the most popular brands of telescope is made by Bushmaster. You can learn how to set up and use a Bushmaster telescope without any problems. However, make sure that you do your set up while there is still daylight and you will be all set for some great nighttime viewing.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the tripod stand and place it on the ground. If you are on soft ground, press the points of the tripod firmly into the soil. If you are on a solid surface, like concrete, just open the tripod.

    • 2

Remove the telescope from its case and mount it on the tripod, fitting the center gold screw coming from the top of the tripod into the threaded hole at the base of the telescope. Turn the screw clockwise to lock the two together.

    • 3

Roughly aim the telescope in the direction you will be viewing. Near the base are two screws with knob handles. One, when loosened, will allow you to rotate your telescope 360 degrees on the tripod. The other will allow you to tilt your Bushmaster telescope up or down. When the body of your telescope is aimed, turn these knobs clockwise until they are hand tight.

    • 4

Insert the eyepiece into its holder. A Bushmaster telescope uses either top mounted eyepieces for viewing or rear mounted. Some may come with an additional "sight scope" to help you align your telescope. Slide the eye piece into place and tighten the small black holding screws. Do the same with any other view finders provided.

    • 5

Pick an object on the horizon and center and sight the telescope. If you have an additional "sight scope," look through this to aim your main body telescope. If you do not have a scope, turn the telescope roughly in the direction of the object. When you have the object roughly in the center of your eyepiece, turn the small knobs on the eye piece to focus. When you have it focused there, reach under the body of the main telescope and locate the two small screws that you will use to adjust the main mirror of the telescope. Continue adjusting both until you are satisfied that your Bushmaster telescope is as finely focused and centered on your object as possible.

Enter in the coordinates of the quadrant you want to view at night. On some Bushmaster telescopes, you will have a digital keypad in which to enter the actual coordinates of the star quadrant you wish to view. On others, there will be a small flat "dial" just above the base of the telescope, marked with increments of degrees. You can manually fine tune the direction of your telescope body to your coordinates by turning the ring above the dial counterclockwise to release the body and then moving it the number of degrees needed. Lock the ring by turning it in a clockwise fashion.
