Learn this mnemonic to help you remember the positions of the planets: "My Very Educated Mother Just Saw Uncle Nick." The first letter of each word corresponds to the location of each planet in the solar system. So, Mercury and Venus are followed by Earth. Mars and Jupiter are next, followed by Saturn and Uranus. Neptune is last, as Pluto has been reclassified as a plutoid since 2008 and is no longer considered a planet.
Write your own mnemonic to help you remember the position of each planet. For example, if you know someone named Mrs. Vasquez you could write a mnemonic that uses her name: "Mrs. Vasquez Eats Many Juniper Seeds Until Nourished." If you mother sleeps in, you could write: "My Very Elegant Mother Just Slept Until Nine." If you have to get up early in the morning, you could write: "My Very Early Mornings Just Start Unrestful Naps." Writing your own mnemonic will help you remember it. Use the names of your pets, family and friends to make the mnemonic even easier to remember.
Remember which "M" stands for Mars and which for Mercury easily by remembering that Mercury is the closest planet to the Sun. This means it comes first in the sentence.
